Life in exile
Since the beginning of the Syrian war in 2011, millions of Syrians have fled their homeland in search of safety. With 3.7 million registered Syrians, Turkey is the world’s biggest refugee host nation, and since the crisis began, about 500,000 Syrian children have been born in the country.
Most young Syrians have little choice but to take seasonal work on farms or in factories and many families have had to adapt to their new life, learn a new language and find a salary that, in most cases, is not enough to live on.
