200 days on hunger strike
Leyla Güven, kurdish politician and activist, was elected deputy of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the last Turkish presidential elections of June 2017, but she had been in jail since that January for statements against the Turkish military operation in Afrin. Leyla was on hunger strike for more than 200 days, a protest that began in early November 2018 for the termination of Abdullah Ocalan ́s isolation, leader of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party). She began the strike in prison and for 6 months survived only on water, salt and vitamins.
